“The experience of finding home care for my Mother has given me much insight into the difficulties of finding the right kind of care.”
Jean, board member
As part of a series of short insights into our team members, we asked Jean, one of our board members, to tell us a bit about herself and her own experiences of finding home care for a family member.
My mother is now very disabled but my sister and I have worked hard with local care agencies in Doncaster to get her the care she needs to enable her to stay in her own home. This experience has given me much insight into the difficulties of finding the right kind of care. I am committed to helping Cooperative Care Colne Valley develop a caring and sensitive service for both user members and staff.
I am a retired special needs teacher working with children with severe and profound needs. My focus was on communication, interaction and finding ways the children could live as independent and fulfilled lives as possible.
I have developed specialised training in this area, and have delivered training to many of the special schools in Kirklees. I have worked with the local charity Shabang and volunteered with the local foodbank and refugee charities. I have also been a school governor at Castle Hill Special School and have recently become a board member on the board of Cooperative Care Colne Valley.
