“I have no doubt that we are stronger and
better together – we need co-operation, not competition to make our community a welcoming, healthy and thriving place to live.”
Jan, Secretary to the Board
As part of a series of short insights into our team members, we asked Jan, one of our board directors, to tell us a bit about herself and her thoughts on Social Care.
I have lived in Marsden for just over 25 years, I work in Slaithwaite as a solicitor and feel very much part of the local community. My plan is to grow old and see out my days in the Valley.
I feel strongly that with the many challenges we are facing as a society and a species that we need to build strong, interdependent communities where people know, care about and look after each other with respect and kindness.
I am one of the founder members of CCCV and am currently acting as Secretary to the Board with general oversight over administrative functions and finances. The work we have done already has been really interesting, exciting and sometimes very challenging. It is all very easy to say that the system is broken, and in terms of Social Care – not just in the Colne Valley – that is certainly the case, but another thing altogether to find a better, viable alternative.
I have no doubt that we are stronger and better together – we need co-operation, not competition to make our community a welcoming, healthy and thriving place to live, where everyone has value and the opportunity to live their life in the best way they can.
My other interests are with the Local Amnesty International Group, Sanctuary Kirklees – in particular the Growing Communities Project based in Golcar growing plants and vegetables with volunteers from the local community, refugees and asylum seekers.
